So Borego feels better

Angst

Thanks for your helpful instructions on posting links, Borego. I'll take the time to work on the 'custom tab' details soon.
So you don't feel too bad about the happy happy joy joy photo in the first post, above find one that says it better.
Although I can't imagine why our stalwart Prez has struck a bad chord with the teachers of America as you aver in your post. After all his NCLB brought you federalized standardized testing so you are all forced to teach the test in order to keep your jobs. Then there is PRAXIS, ever popular, especially around here. I've heard you are all in for a raise, as soon as we get those pesky oil prices in check. Next, you'll all be getting personalized thank you cards from the white House ( that will start in October).
So help the guy out, send him a primer.

Thanks to all of you who have linked up to the Saipanuvian Speaks site so far.

While I would never choose to go back to the days with no accountability, I mourn the loss of classrooms filled with creative noise and exploration. What NCLB did was to overlook authentic learning opportunities in exchange for performance, performance, progress, progress, at all cost. Funny you mentioned a raise because I didn't know about that. I do know that the principals who have passed the praxis, certified and have their masters degrees will get a one time bonus this month. I just got my monthly issue of Principal Magazine and noted that the average salary among principals nationwide is somewhere around 82 grand.

I've said before that it really isn't the money that will determine things here, "things" being how well our school system does. It is knowing we have a unified vision for our children, the materials and equipment to perform our jobs, the support from stakeholders and policy-makers and finally, facilities that are safe.

Having said all that, we are doing pretty well by NCLB standards in comparison to the rest of the Pacific Region, including our neighbors to the south. NCLB will have to change if it is to be effective and I'm hopeful that with enough teacher and district input it will become balanced in it's approach and demands.

Ok Bruce, so now in addition to having to figure out how to link to the rest of us, you are also tagged. Consider it your punishment for taking so long. See my blog on 7-3-07 for details.

Bruce offered me a free beer since I'm leaving, so I'll try and free some time to assist with links. It was the double http which slowed me down.

Okay, Okay...I linking, I'm linking. It's this damned cattle prod. Every time I threaten the computer with another jolt, it shuts down. Maybe Linux?
